Oman Strengthens Gulf Tourism Position with $5.5 Billion Revenue Boost

Oman’s tourism revenues reached $5.5 billion in 2024, reflecting its commitment to diversifying its economy. According to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, tourism profits are steadily increasing, reaching 2.12 billion rials in 2024 from 1.75 billion rials in 2018. The tourism sector’s contribution to GDP increased to 2.7 billion rials.

European travellers were instrumental in this expansion, contributing a 10.2% increase in hotel revenues. Hotels and resorts improved luxury and eco-tourism offerings to meet demand. Oman’s strategic location, rich tradition, and natural attractions have strengthened its position in the Gulf tourism market.

The government’s efforts, including targeted campaigns and collaborations, have increased Oman’s global tourism appeal. Visitors now have easier access to important destinations due to infrastructure advancements in transport and air connectivity.

The Minister of Heritage and Tourism attributes this growth to government initiatives that promote foreign tourism. Oman’s Vision 2040 emphasises tourism as a source of economic diversification. Inflation is forecast to rise gradually, but non-oil sectors, particularly tourism, are expected to expand steadily. The government intends to build more sustainable tourism infrastructure to accommodate increased demand.
