Shubman Gill Breaks Kohli’s Record, Becomes First Asian Captain to Score 600 Runs in England Series

Shubman Gill created history during India’s third Test against England at Lord’s. Despite scoring only 16 runs before being removed by Chris Woakes, Gill reached a remarkable milestone.

Jamie Smith took a superb catch behind the stumps to finish Gill’s innings early, making it only the second time in the series that he failed to reach a century. However, Gill’s brief stay at the crease was sufficient to complete 600 runs in the current series. With this, he surpassed Virat Kohli’s previous record of 593 runs as an Asian captain in a Test series in England.

Gill became the first Asian captain to score 600 runs in a single Test series on English soil. He now owns the record for most runs scored by an Asian cricketer in a Test series in England, beating Mohammad Azharuddin and Javed Miandad. Gill also surpassed Allan Border’s 597 runs in 1985, becoming only the third captain in England to cross 600 runs in a series, after Gary Sobers and Graeme Smith.

Gill is just one run behind Rahul Dravid’s 602 and is closing in on Mohammad Yusuf’s record of 631 runs for an Asian in England.
