PM Modi Calls Malaysia Vital for India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and Act East Policy

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted Malaysia as vital to India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and Act East Policy. PM Modi posted on his X account that he met Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. PM Modi added that they discussed bilateral relations and the progress made during Anwar’s visit to India last year.

Additionally, he highlighted that ties are increasing rapidly in futuristic sectors such as information technology, renewable energy, and infrastructure.

The leaders addressed ways to strengthen bilateral investment and commercial cooperation. Modi introduced Vision MAHASAGAR, which stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions, during his March visit to Mauritius. The vision builds on India’s SAGAR policy, which was introduced in 2015 to guide engagement with the Indian Ocean region.

Anwar travelled to Rio de Janeiro for the BRICS Leaders’ Summit, which was hosted by Brazil and attended by Malaysia, a BRICS partner country and the current ASEAN chair. This summit is the first to bring together leaders from BRICS members and partner countries to strengthen collaboration across all sectors.
