PM Modi Inaugurates India’s First Bamboo-Based Bio-Ethanol Plant in Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first bamboo-based bio-ethanol refinery in Assam’s Golaghat district, describing it as a significant step towards India’s objective of being self-reliant in energy. Addressing a massive gathering, the Prime Minister stated that India is committed to reducing its reliance on foreign fuels and will continue to explore new paths for clean and sustainable energy production.

He claimed that the bio-ethanol facility will not only assist in using bamboo resources from the Northeast but will also provide job opportunities and strengthen the local economy. Mr. Modi emphasised that India is currently one of the top five countries in the world for solar energy capacity and is dedicated to building renewable energy infrastructure to meet growing demand.

During his visit, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for a polypropylene unit at the refinery, taking another step towards strengthening the petrochemical sector. Earlier that day, he laid the groundwork for Darrang Medical College, Nursing College, and a GNM School in Darrang district.

From the same location, Mr. Modi virtually launched the construction of a new bridge across the Brahmaputra River between Narengi and Kuruwa, as well as the Guwahati Ring Road project.
