Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined three key priorities for the next decade: structural reforms, deeper innovation, and simpler governance, stating that his government’s “Reform Express” is delivering tangible benefits to citizens. In an interview with a news agency, he said the Union Budget reflects India’s aspiration to become a developed nation, calling it a “we are ready” moment driven by preparation and confidence rather than compulsion.
The Prime Minister noted that the impact of defence reforms was visible during Operation Sindoor, stressing that India must remain prepared to meet evolving security challenges. Highlighting the allocation of Rs 7.85 lakh crore to the defence sector in the Union Budget 2026–27, he said this represents a 15 per cent increase over the previous year and is the largest outlay for any ministry.
PM also emphasised the role of women in building Viksit Bharat, saying government initiatives are aimed at empowering them. On trade agreements, he said political stability and predictability have strengthened investor confidence, enabling India to negotiate from a position of strength. He added that Free Trade Agreements will expand opportunities for MSMEs across sectors such as textiles, leather, chemicals, handicrafts, and gems.
Criticising the previous UPA government for economic mismanagement, he reiterated that reform remains his government’s core commitment. He urged the private sector to respond decisively by investing in R&D, supply chains, and quality, stating that bold innovation and long-term investment will drive India’s next phase of growth.
