Norwegian cross-country skier Johannes Klaebo made history on Sunday,February 15, 2026, becoming the first Winter Olympian to win nine gold medals after anchoring Norway’s 4×7.5 km relay team to victory at the Milan-Cortina Games. The Norwegian quartet was so dominant that Klaebo had time to wave to the crowd before crossing the finish line in Tesero, where he was welcomed by his jubilant teammates.
At 29, Klaebo has already claimed four gold medals in Milan-Cortina, with two more events still to come. His latest triumph takes him past legendary compatriots Marit Bjoergen, Bjoern Daehlie, and Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, all of whom finished their careers with eight Winter Olympic golds.
“It feels amazing. I’m really proud,” Klaebo said, adding that sharing the moment with his relay teammates made it even more special. He revealed that he received congratulatory messages via Norwegian broadcaster NRK from the former record holders.
Klaebo previously won three golds at the PyeongChang Games and two at the Beijing Games, along with a silver and a bronze.
