President Droupadi Murmu urged the Indian community during her visit to Angola to actively contribute to India and Angola’s mutual progress. Addressing a gathering in Luanda at a reception held by the Indian Ambassador, she stated that India values its partnership with Africa, particularly with Angola, which is built on the principles of equality, trust, and mutual progress.
The President emphasised India’s ongoing involvement with the continent through the India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS), and expressed hope that the next summit will take place soon. She emphasised that Angola is crucial for India’s energy security, and trade between the two countries has already topped USD 5 billion.
President Murmu stated that India exports pharmaceuticals, food items, refined petroleum, autos, and machinery to Angola, while Indian enterprises actively participate in sectors such as tourism, infrastructure, and agriculture.
She praised Angola’s 8,000-strong Indian population for their hard work, professionalism, and contribution to improving people-to-people ties. Murmu urged them to increase trade, business, and cultural cooperation.
V. Somanna, Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways, attended the reception, as did Members of Parliament Parbhubhai Nagarbhai Vasava and D. K. Aruna.
