Priya Malik Clinches Silver, Manisha Takes Bronze as Indian Women Wrestlers Shine in Budapest

Indian women wrestlers continued their impressive run at the 4th Ranking Series Polyak Imre and Varga Janos Memorial in Budapest, Hungary, winning silver and bronze medals. Priya Malik took silver in the 76 kg category. She received a bye in the qualification round before defeating Kazakhstan’s Almira Syzdykova 7–2. In the semifinals, she defeated Valeriia (UWW) by technical superiority 11-1 to go to the final.

In a close contest for gold, Priya lost 4-3 to Brazil’s Martins Machado, securing silver for India. Manisha, the Asian Champion, received bronze after making it through the repechage. She gained a bye in the qualification round but was defeated by Amina Tandelova in the quarterfinals due to technical superiority.

As Amina advanced to the final, Manisha entered the repechage and defeated France’s Ameline Douarre by fall. She subsequently defeated Krystina Sazykina in the bronze medal round, winning again by fall. Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers were unable to qualify for gold bouts, but the competition will continue in the remaining weight divisions. Later, two Indian women won gold medals in the same event.

Olympian Antim Panghal won gold in the 53 kg division, defeating Russia’s Natalia Malysheva 7-4, for her second international gold of the year.
