Cristiano Ronaldo continues to rewrite football history, moving closer to the unprecedented landmark of 1,000 career goals after scoring his 960th goal during Al Nassr’s Saudi Pro League clash against Damac.
The 40-year-old Portuguese striker found the net on matchday 17, extending his lead over long-time rival Lionel Messi in the all-time scoring charts. With the strike, Ronaldo also achieved another significant milestone, becoming Al Nassr’s highest-ever foreign goal scorer.
Ronaldo’s goal against Damac took his tally for the Saudi club to 116, surpassing Moroccan forward Abderrazak Hamdallah, who previously held the record with 115 goals. The achievement further cements Ronaldo’s status as one of the most prolific scorers in football history.
Having previously starred for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, Ronaldo is now just 40 goals away from reaching the mythical 1,000-goal mark — a feat no player has officially achieved in the modern era of global football.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi, who has enjoyed a glittering career with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Miami, and the Argentina national team, currently stands at 896 career goals, 63 behind Ronaldo. The Argentine’s season is yet to begin, leaving him 104 goals short of the historic milestone.
As both legends near the twilight of their careers, the race for football’s ultimate scoring record continues to captivate fans worldwide.
