The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched a flexible Special Capacity Building Course for sports quota recruits employed in various government departments. The two-year programme will begin on October 27, with September 25 set as the last date for submitting applications.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya underlined that the project aims to keep India’s players involved in the sporting ecosystem even after they retire from active competition. The course will be conducted at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala, and is designed to provide professional coaching abilities in athletics, boxing, judo, hockey, and wrestling.
Participants will progress through four levels, and upon completion, they will receive a diploma-equivalent qualification in sports coaching. Unlike the one-year residential diploma given by NIS across 26 disciplines, this course is designed to accommodate working professionals, with only six weeks of necessary offline training at a stretch.
The age limit has been set at 40-42 years to promote more participation. The course fee is ₹14,800 per level, excluding boarding and housing. Eligible candidates include sports quota recruits, ex-athletes looking to return to the field, government personnel involved in sports activities, and those looking to work in coaching, talent development, or sports administration.
