Former US President Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “fantastic leader” during remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, saying a “good deal” was possible for India and the United States, signalling prospects for closer economic ties.
Addressing business and policy leaders, Trump said he shared a strong rapport with Modi and believed bilateral cooperation could expand across trade, investment and strategic sectors. He described India as a rapidly growing economy with a large consumer base and increasing influence in global supply chains.
Trump highlighted opportunities in technology, defence, energy and manufacturing, suggesting that deeper engagement would benefit companies and workers in both countries. He also said India remained a key partner for the US in the Indo-Pacific, citing shared democratic values and security interests.
The comments come as India-US relations continue to strengthen through defence agreements, technology collaboration and growing people-to-people ties. Trade between the two countries has steadily increased in recent years, making the US one of India’s largest economic partners.
While Trump did not provide details on the proposed deal, analysts said his Davos remarks aimed to reassure investors about continuity in ties and any renewed engagement between India and the United States.
