The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has formally launched the Blue Residency scheme, a long-term visa initiative designed to recognise those who have made substantial contributions to sustainability, environmental protection, and renewable energy. The statement was made at the 2025 World Government Summit, which was held in Dubai from February 11 to 13. According to Emirates News Agency (WAM), the programme aims to attract top worldwide talent in the green industry.
The Blue Residency program provides a 10-year visa to prominent specialists, researchers, innovators, and investors in sustainability-related sectors, both locally and globally. In its initial phase, 20 notable sustainability experts have already received this prestigious resident designation.
This effort is consistent with the UAE’s longstanding commitment to climate action and economic diversification. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security manages the application procedure, which allows candidates to apply through government entities associated with the sustainability sector.
The scheme is aimed at four main groups: scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and top executives in environmental organisations. Eligible awardees can take advantage of family sponsorship, multi-entry visas, and renewable 10-year residency, establishing the UAE as a premier location for sustainability pioneers.
