Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Aravalli Green Wall’ project to commemorate World Environment Day with a significant push for environmental restoration. The effort aims to reforest the Aravalli range, a 700-kilometre region covering Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi, to address decades of environmental degradation.
PM Modi also took part in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ tree planting initiative at Delhi’s Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, where he shared images and emphasised the campaign’s importance.
In his remarks, he stated that the Aravalli Green Wall Project would establish a green zone from Delhi to Gujarat, acting as a natural barrier against desertification and supporting groundwater recharge. The project focuses on collaborating with local governments to revitalise landscapes, enhance water systems, reduce dust storms, and limit the Thar Desert’s eastward spread.
PM Modi emphasised innovative approaches, stating that plantation activities will be geotagged and monitored via the Meri LiFE platform. The campaign will be sustained by the establishment of 1,000 permanent nurseries. Satellite mapping will ensure transparency and rapid deployment. The Aravalli Range contains 22 wildlife sanctuaries and four tiger reserves, including Ranthambore and Sariska. PM Modi urged the youth to help with this critical environmental initiative.
