Deepika Kumari leads India to historic win over Korea at Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai

India’s women’s recurve archery team scripted history by defeating South Korea 5-1 in the semifinals of the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai. The Indian trio of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and teenage archer Kumkum Mohod produced one of the country’s biggest wins in international archery by overcoming the dominant Korean side, considered the strongest team in the sport.

The victory marked only the fourth time India has defeated South Korea in women’s recurve team competition at the World Cup level. India advanced to the final after earlier defeating Uzbekistan and edging past Vietnam in a tense quarterfinal shoot-off. Youngster Kumkum Mohod, competing in just her second World Cup event, earned praise for her composure under pressure.

South Korea has historically dominated Olympic and world archery competitions, making India’s triumph especially significant. The result has renewed hopes for a major international title for the Indian women’s recurve team. The squad will now face host nation China in the final as India seeks its first women’s recurve team gold medal at a World Cup stage since 2021.
