Former India captain Rohit Sharma was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the honour in recognition of Rohit’s outstanding contribution to Indian cricket and his achievements on the international stage. The award ceremony formed part of the second Civil Investiture Ceremony, with several distinguished personalities from various fields being recognised for their service and accomplishments.
Rohit received the honour following one of the most successful phases of his international career. Under his leadership, India secured the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, making him one of the country’s most successful captains.
Widely regarded as one of the finest batsmen of his generation, Rohit has been a key figure in Indian cricket for more than a decade. He remains the only player to score three double centuries in One Day Internationals and holds the record for the highest individual score in ODI cricket with 264 runs.
Across formats, Rohit has amassed more than 20,000 international runs and has played a pivotal role in several of India’s major successes. His achievements have earned him widespread recognition globally.
The Padma Shri adds another prestigious accolade to Rohit’s decorated career, acknowledging his impact on Indian cricket.
The honour places him among a distinguished group of athletes recognised with one of India’s highest civilian awards for excellence in their respective fields.
