Google to Invest $15 Billion in First AI Hub in India, Pichai Meets PM Modi

Google CEO Sundar Pichai met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to discuss the company’s plans to build its first artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The initiative represents one of Google’s most significant global investments, worth USD 15 billion over the next five years.

Pichai announced on the social networking site X, emphasising his eagerness to collaborate with India to advance AI technology. He stated that the Visakhapatnam hub would bring together gigawatt-scale computing power, a new international subsea gateway, and smart energy infrastructure. The facility is designed to serve as a foundation for advancing digital transformation and innovation in India.

The statement was made at Bharat AI Shakti, a Google-hosted event in New Delhi before the India-AI Impact Summit 2026. According to corporate officials, the new hub will combine large-scale data centre capabilities with cutting-edge AI development, cementing India’s place in global technology and research.

This will be Google’s largest AI hub outside of the United States, offering strong AI tools and infrastructure to corporations, developers, and users. The project highlights India’s growing importance in the global AI ecosystem and underscores Google’s long-term commitment to promoting technology advancement in the country.
