Lakshya Sen finished his season with a dominant victory at the 2025 Australian Open Super 500 in Sydney, defeating Japan’s Yushi Tanaka 21-15, 21-11. The victory, sealed in 38 minutes, awarded the World No. 14 his first title of the year and third Super 500 trophy of his career. Sen reached the final in good shape after defeating fellow Indian Ayush Shetty and Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen in physically demanding matches.
Sen, on the other hand, had an easy time in the finale. Tanaka struggled with errors, lacked accuracy, and lost rhythm. Sen remained composed, avoided risky shots, and dominated rallies from the start. Tanaka briefly cut the deficit to 15-13 in the first game, but mistakes at critical moments allowed Sen to pull away. Sen extended his hold in the second game with precise placement and judgement.
Sen celebrated his victory by shutting out the noise, a significant moment after a year of disappointments and intensive preparation following his loss at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Though he nearly missed qualifying for the World Tour Finals, this win boosts his confidence and positions him for major 2026 events.
