NASA sets April 2 launch for Artemis-II. Here’s when the Moon rocket will lift off

NASA is set to mark a historic moment in space exploration as the Space Launch System prepares to send astronauts on the Artemis II mission. This will be the first crewed journey beyond low-Earth orbit since the Apollo program over half a century ago.

Scheduled for launch on April 2, 2026, from Kennedy Space Center, the mission will carry four astronauts, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen, aboard the Orion spacecraft. Over the course of the 10-day mission, the crew will orbit the Moon without landing, conducting vital tests of life-support systems, navigation, and deep-space communication.

Artemis II is a crucial step in NASA’s broader Artemis programme, designed to return humans to the Moon and lay the groundwork for future missions, including Artemis III. The programme also highlights international collaboration, with Canada represented on this landmark mission.

If successful, Artemis II will pave the way for sustained lunar exploration and future human missions to Mars, signalling the beginning of a new era in deep-space exploration
