Oman has achieved a major technological milestone with the upcoming launch of its first national communications satellite, OmanSat-1, on November 23, 2025. The project represents the country’s entry into the global space realm and reflects its expanding objectives for digital transformation. The satellite, created in collaboration with aerospace giant Airbus Defence and Space, is based on the innovative OneSat platform, which is famed for its capacity to be digitally configured while in orbit.
OmanSat-1 operates in the Ka-band, providing secure, high-capacity communication services. Its scope includes Oman, its territorial waters, and neighbouring regions in the Middle East, East Africa, and parts of Asia. This capability will improve government, commercial, and rural connectivity, ensuring consistent access to critical digital services.
The project is led by Space Communications Technologies on behalf of the Oman Investment Authority, with the support of a dedicated project management office in charge of technical and administrative coordination. The satellite aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and strengthens the country’s long-term National Space Strategy. By creating its own satellite infrastructure, Oman reduces its reliance on external communication networks and strengthens its digital sovereignty.
OmanSat-1 marks a new era in the country’s technological history, laying the framework for future space efforts that would promote national progress and creativity.
