PM Modi, Japan PM Takaichi Launch ₹35,000-Crore Maruti Suzuki Kharkhoda Plant

PM Narendra Modi and Japan PM Takaichi inaugurated Maruti Suzuki India’s Kharkhoda manufacturing plant in Haryana on Friday, marking a major milestone in India-Japan industrial cooperation in the automotive sector.

Maruti Suzuki’s newest manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda has been developed with an investment of approximately ₹35,000 crores across 800 acres. The plant is expected to become the company’s largest production hub in India, with a projected annual manufacturing capacity of 10 lakh vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki has already commenced commercial production at the facility, its operations beginning with a capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles per year. Capacity will be expanded in phases as demand grows.

At the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the project as a reflection of the strong strategic and economic partnership between India and Japan. The plant will strengthen India’s position as a global automobile manufacturing hub, generating significant employment opportunities and supporting local supply chains.

The Kharkhoda facility will manufacture Suzuki’s next-generation hybrid and electric models, aligning with the company’s long-term focus on sustainable mobility and cleaner transportation technologies.

Maruti Suzuki said the new plant incorporates advanced manufacturing systems, digital production technologies, and sustainable processes to improve efficiency while reducing emissions.

The inauguration reinforces India’s Make in India initiative, with the project expected to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities and boost exports from one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive markets.
