PM Modi Lauds Para Athletes as India Achieves Record 22 Medals at World Championships

India delivered a historic performance in the World Para Athletics Championships, finishing with 22 medals, the most ever, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The Indian contingent won 6 gold, 9 silver, and 7 bronze medals, exceeding their previous best haul of 17 in Kobe, Japan, in 2024, when they earned 6 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze.

In this 12th edition of the championships, India fields a 73-member team consisting of 54 men and 19 women. The global tournament attracted nearly 2,000 para-athletes from 104 countries, making it one of the largest gatherings in the competition’s history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the athletes, praising their dedication and resilience. In a message posted on X, he praised the performance as “historic” and stated that their accomplishment would inspire many people around the country. He also thanked the international athletes and personnel for making the event unforgettable, and said holding the tournament in Delhi was a source of pride for India.

On the final day, India gained four more medals to their tally. Simran Sharma, Preethi Pal, and Navdeep won silver medals, with Sandeep taking bronze.
