On the opening day of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced six global initiatives that represent India’s vision for inclusive growth. He advocated establishing a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository to preserve and share humanity’s collective wisdom, an Africa Skills Multiplier Programme to train one million certified instructors for youth skilling, and a Global Healthcare Response Team to be deployed during health crises. He also called for joint action against the drug-terror network through a dedicated G20 initiative to disrupt trafficking and related financing.
PM Modi emphasised the significance of resilient and sustainable growth while speaking in two sessions. He highlighted the Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative, which promotes recycling, urban mining, and second-life battery projects to improve supply chain security. He also advocated for an Open Satellite Data Partnership, which would provide developing countries with satellite information for agriculture, disaster management, and fisheries.
During discussions on building a more resilient world, PM called for greater climate action, highlighting India’s food security measures, health insurance coverage, and crop protection schemes. He highlighted millets as climate-friendly crops and praised South Africa’s leadership. He further stated that new methods, such as Integral Humanism, can help balance progress and planetary well-being.
