India-Oman trade pact to open new export opportunities for Kashmir handicrafts, agri products

The proposed trade agreement between India and Oman is expected to create fresh export opportunities for Kashmir’s handicrafts and agricultural products, offering a significant boost to local businesses and artisans. Industry representatives believe the pact could improve market access and enhance trade links between the two countries.

Kashmir is renowned for its traditional handicrafts, including carpets, shawls, papier-mâché products and woodwork. Exporters anticipate that reduced trade barriers and improved commercial cooperation could help these products reach a wider consumer base in Oman and other Gulf markets.

Agricultural commodities, including fruits, saffron and other high-value products from the region, are also expected to benefit from improved trade conditions. Stakeholders argue that easier market access could increase demand, generate employment and support rural livelihoods.

Oman has emerged as an important trading partner for India in the Gulf region, with bilateral cooperation extending across trade, investment, energy and infrastructure. The proposed agreement is viewed as a step toward strengthening economic ties and diversifying export destinations for Indian producers.

Experts believe that the pact could contribute to higher export revenues while helping traditional industries in Kashmir gain greater international visibility and commercial opportunities.
