Indonesia is expanding its wildlife health and conservation capabilities through a partnership involving Vantara and PT Fauna Land Group.
Indonesia’s Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni announced the initiative during a press conference in Jakarta. The programme aims to strengthen national wildlife facilities, expertise, resources and field capabilities for long-term conservation.
Vantara, founded by Anant Ambani, will provide veterinary expertise, technical support, infrastructure assistance and capacity-building programmes.
The partnership will include training for elephant caregivers, veterinarians and officials involved in wildlife management across Indonesia.
It will also establish 10 Hospitals on Wheels, providing veterinary services directly to wild animals within their natural habitats. The Way Kambas Elephant Hospital will receive advanced equipment and technology through its planned transformation into an Elephant Treatment Centre.
The upgraded facility will support 62 Sumatran elephants under human care and nearly 100 wild elephants nearby.
The cooperation operates under an existing MoU covering veterinary care, animal welfare, conservation breeding, rehabilitation and rewilding.
For Vantara, the initiative expands its international conservation activities beyond Jamnagar and strengthens its focus on in-situ conservation.
