Vietnam wants to become one of the top three countries in ASEAN for artificial intelligence research and development by 2030.
The target is part of the country’s national AI strategy. The government wants AI to play a larger role in Vietnam’s economy and public services. Vietnam also aims to place among the world’s top 30 nations on the Government AI Readiness Index by 2030.
Vietnam has also set an economic target. It wants AI-related activity to account for around 6% of GDP by 2030. The country is also aiming to export about US$5 billion worth of AI products and solutions.
Businesses are expected to play a major role in this plan. Vietnam wants 60% of its businesses to use AI to improve their operations by 2030.
The government is also looking at how AI can be used in public administration. Civil servants are expected to use the technology regularly as part of their work. The strategy also aims to have data and AI support 60% of administrative decisions. It also targets a 30% rise in satisfaction with AI-supported public services.
Vietnam is putting more attention on home-grown AI products as well. It wants to develop at least 10 Vietnamese AI brands that can compete in international markets.
The country is also working on AI models that can work effectively in Vietnamese. National AI platforms are another part of the plan.
Several major Vietnamese technology companies are already working in the field. The government wants closer links between these companies, researchers and universities.
The plan also covers industries such as manufacturing and scientific research. AI will become more common in these areas as the country’s technology sector grows.
The government is now focusing on local talent, research and Vietnamese AI products as it works towards these goals.
