Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal expressed confidence that India’s exports will exceed the record levels achieved in FY25. Speaking at the opening ceremony of Bharat Buildcon 2026 in New Delhi, Goyal emphasised that tariffs imposed by foreign countries would not hinder India’s progress. He emphasised that any country seeking an FTA with India would find the nation willing to negotiate, but India would never compromise its self-respect or bow to pressure.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India’s overall exports in FY24-25 reached a record high of USD 824.9 billion, up 6.01% from USD 778.1 billion in FY23-24. The achievement surpassed the government’s initial estimate of USD 800 billion. The government has set an ambitious USD 1 trillion target for the fiscal year 25-26.
Exports in July 2025 stood at USD 68.25 billion, compared to USD 65.31 billion the previous year. Exports during April-July 2025 reached USD 277.63 billion, up 5.23% year-on-year.
Goyal criticised pessimistic assessments of India’s trade outlook, citing resiliency shown during the Covid-19 outbreak and other economic sanctions. He stated that ongoing trade deals with nations like Australia, the UAE, Switzerland, and the UK will increase market access and boost India’s economic growth.
