Spread of Delta variant sending more kids need hospital care

The surge in the current Delta variant of Covid-19 is sending more children to hospitals across the nation. The doctors are concerned over the current situation and ask parents to do a better job of protecting their kids. According to AsiaOne, the special care is advised for the children below the age of 12 who cannot get vaccinated.

Children getting hospitalized for Covid-19 have seen an increase of 84% between July 10 and from 665 to 1,224 according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The number of pediatric hospitalizations are also increasing in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Children’s Hospital Association have issued a report in which only 0.1% to 1.9% of all known cases in Children lead to hospitalization. AsiaOne Magazine stated that the report also showed the number of children testing positive for COVID-19 rose from 8,447 on June 24 to 71,726 on July 29. In the winter surge in mid-January more than 2,11,000 cases were seen in children.

The risk for unvaccinated youth makes them most susceptible to infection and many governments throughout the world have started vaccination campaigns for below 18 years.
