Scientists Create Early Embryos Using Human Skin Cells in Fertility Breakthrough

Researchers have successfully created fertilizable eggs from human skin cells, resulting in early-stage embryos. The findings, published in Nature Communications, represent a significant advancement in the search for advanced fertility treatments. The procedure involved transplanting the nucleus of a skin cell, which contains the majority of human genetic material, into a donor egg stripped of its own nucleus. Using this procedure, the team created 82 functional immature eggs. These oocytes were then fertilised in the laboratory, creating embryos that carried DNA from the skin cell donor.

First-of-its-Kind Artificial Neurons Could Directly Interface With Human Cells

Engineers at the University of Massachusetts created the first artificial neurons capable of communicating directly with living cells, marking a significant milestone. The achievement brings research closer to developing computing systems that mirror the biological principles of the human brain and potentially integrate with the human body. The artificial neurones were created to mimic the electrical functions of natural neurones, making them the most similar to biological ones so far. The researchers had previously worked on protein nanowires synthesised from bacteria that generate electr

India Sets Sights on Venus with ISRO’s 2028 Orbiter Mission

India announced a big step forward in planetary science with the Venus Orbiter Mission (VOM), which will launch in March 2028. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) recently invited researchers to analyse existing Venus data and contribute to new studies that will enhance the scope of this ground-breaking mission. Venus, sometimes referred to as Earth's twin due to its size and composition, exhibits dramatic contrasts that continue to puzzle scientists. With surface temperatures approaching 450°C and a carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere filled with sulphuric acid clouds, it provides o
