UP to Invest ₹35,000 Crore to Achieve 22,000 MW Solar Capacity by 2028

The Uttar Pradesh government aims to invest over ₹35,000 crore in solar projects by 2027-28, resulting in a capacity of 22,000 megawatts. The plan, known as the Solar Energy Policy 2022, aims to expedite the state’s renewable energy adoption and attract large-scale commercial and public investments.

The plan calls for the construction of seven solar energy parks with a combined capacity of 3,700 MW spread across several areas. These projects will be developed by prominent players, including NHPC Limited, THDC India Limited, and the Avaada Group. The government also intends to deploy floating solar plants in 37 major reservoirs, diversifying solar generation sources while optimising land utilisation.

To promote participation, the state provides a 100% stamp duty exemption for land allocated to solar projects, as well as up to ten years of electricity duty exemptions, creating a beneficial investment environment.

This large-scale solar initiative is part of India’s larger effort to increase renewable energy capacity and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. If implemented on time, Uttar Pradesh’s 22,000 MW solar objective will be a significant step towards transforming the state into a vital contributor to the country’s clean energy transition.
