Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past 12 years has transformed India into a self-reliant nation by strengthening the confidence of its people.
In Mumbai, Goyal said India has concluded 9 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) under Modi, allowing market access across 38 developed countries. He noted that the agreements are creating new opportunities for Indian entrepreneurs, farmers, fishermen and women-led businesses while supporting employment generation and economic growth.
The minister said the Prime Minister has consistently turned challenges into opportunities and positioned India as a stronger player in the global economy. Referring to Modi’s recent visit to France, Goyal highlighted bilateral discussions with global leaders and expressed optimism about the implementation of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement from July 15.
Goyal also pointed out several welfare initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for millions of Indians. He said more than four crore families have received permanent homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with over 11 crore women benefiting from free LPG connections through the Ujjwala Yojana.
Highlighting sanitation efforts, the minister noted that the Swachh Bharat Mission has led to the construction of more than 12 crore toilets nationwide, adding that India has made significant progress in tackling Naxalism and improving development outcomes in affected regions.
According to Goyal, the combination of economic reforms, welfare programmes and global trade engagement has helped accelerate India’s growth and create opportunities for citizens across sectors.
