Assam boxing icon and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain continued her dominant run on the international stage by clinching the Women’s 75kg gold medal at the prestigious BOXAM Elite International Tournament in La Nucia, Spain. In a high-intensity final, Lovlina outclassed England’s Mary-Kate Smith with a 4:1 split decision, once again underlining her reputation as one of India’s most consistent and composed boxers at the elite level.
The closely contested bout saw both fighters exchange powerful combinations in a charged atmosphere, but it was Lovlina’s tactical brilliance and ring intelligence that made the difference. Using her longer reach and sharp counter-attacks, she maintained control of the pace and kept Smith under pressure throughout the contest. Her superior accuracy, particularly in the later rounds, proved decisive as she outmanoeuvred her opponent and impressed the judges with clean, well-timed strikes.
This gold medal adds another significant achievement to Lovlina’s illustrious career and further strengthens India’s growing footprint in global boxing. The tournament also saw a strong overall performance from Indian women boxers, with Manju Rani (48kg), Nitu Ghanghas (51kg), Priya (60kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), and Naina (80kg) advancing to their respective finals after impressive semi-final victories.
Lovlina’s latest triumph reflects India’s rising stature in international boxing and reinforces her position as a key flagbearer of the sport.
