Canada’s Quinn poised to be first transgender Olympic medalist

Canadian soccer star Quinn becomes the first transgender who won the Olympic medal in Tokyo. He was one of the three openly transgender and/or nonbinary athletes to compete in the Tokyo Games along with New Zealand weightlifter Laurel Hubbard and skateboarder Alana Smith from America.

Quinn and the Canadian team will play for the gold round against Sweden after beating the United States. This win assured a silver for them. Quinn played at Duke and for OL Reign and Washington Spirit earlier. He feels extremely happy that he is being recognized and can inspire people from his community to come out openly for sports. He often gets messages stating that they have never seen a trans person in sports before.

The Tokyo Games are the first to have the Pride House which has a more inclusive environment for Quinn and others. Tokyo’s Pride House has been officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee. They have at least 163 LGBTQ athletes participating by outsport’s count. This number is three times more than the Rio Games. Since 2004, transgender athletes are allowed to participate in the Olympics Games. The participants numbers are gradually increasing.

PV Sindhu creates history with a clear win for the Bronze medal

Indian badminton player won women’s singles bronze at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. PV Sindhu defeated He Bing Jiao of China. The clear win was dominated for 21-13, 21-15 by the player. Sindhu was beaten nine times so far in the last 15 meetings with the opponent. The game showed Sindhu’s determination and aggression to outplay Bing Jiao.

Sindhu becomes the country’s first-ever woman to win two Olympic medals in successive Olympic Games. Wrestler Sushil Kumar is the only player from the country to win two Olympic medals in successive years. PV Sindhu won many medals from each of the big-ticket events like Commonwealth and Asian Games and the BWF World Tour Finals in the previous five-year span. She is also the only fourth player to win two consecutive medals in women’s badminton single’s across Olympic History.

She said she feels extremely happy because has worked very hard for many years but at the same time, she has mixed emotions to be happy or sad for losing the opportunity to play in the final. Her defeat also shook the country with the disappointment of losing the semi-final to Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying on Saturday.

Emma Mckeon becomes the first female swimmer to win seven medals in Olympics

On Sunday, Australia’s Emma McKeon became the first female swimmer who won seven medals in a single Olympic Games. She is the second woman to claim seven medals in any sport to date.

She won four gold medals and three bronze medals at the Game. She won the sprint double with victory in the 50m freestyle after which she won another gold in the women’s 4×100 medley relay. Emma broke the Olympic record in the 50m heats in a time of 24.02 seconds and 24.00 in semi and easily steamrolled through the finals. In McKeon’s career haul, she earned five gold, two silver, and four bronze. Michael Phelps, Mark Spitz, and Matt Biondi are the other three swimmers with a history to win seven medals at a single. Michael Phelps holds the record for eight medals won both in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 for swimming.

The 27-year-old victory also gave Austrian swimmers eight gold medals in the Tokyo Olympics. This equals the nation’s best haul at an Olympic pool from the 1956 Melbourne Games.

Durant becomes the top scorer in the U.S. men’s Olympic history

Kevin Durant becomes the leading men’s scorer in U.S. Olympic basketball history. He made a 3-pointer in the quarter with a 119-84 win over the Czech Republic to give him 337 points in his Olympic career surpassing Carmelo Anthony.

Kevin finished 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting, giving him 354 points with Team USA. this was Durant’s third time. In the previous games also Durant was America’s leading scorer in 2012 and 2016. Both times he scored 30 points in the gold-medal games. He still is far away from the top scorer in Olympic history. Brazil’s Schmidt and Andrew Gaze from Australia appeared in five Olympics to score 1,093 points and 789 points respectively. Third and fourth place is owned by Spain and Argentina who are currently playing their third Olympic games.

Durant has already mastered what The Americans are still learning about each other. The international game with differences from the NBA, Kevin knows how easily it is played and officiated. Kevin doesn’t believe in being a vocal leader and relies more on the way he plays and practices while setting an example for his teammates.

Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas breaks the world record in the triple jump

On Sunday, Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas triple jump created history at the Tokyo Olympic stadium. She earned her gold medal in the women’s triple jump final. She smashed a Venezuelan creates the world record with a result of 15.67 meters.

The previous record was owned by Ukraine’s Inessa Kravets for a record of 15.50 since 1995. This medal is not the only Olympic she holds. She earned a silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 with a final mark of 14.98 meters. She already clinched her gold before her record-setting jump by posting a final distance that was more than half a meter greater than the second-place result. Portugal’s Patricia Mamona earned her silver for 15.01 meeters and Spain’s Ana Peleteriotook home Bronze with a 14.87 meters result.

Rower’s from Ireland wins first gold at Tokyo Olympics

On Thursday, rowers Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy won Ireland’s first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. This stunning victory was seen at the Sea Front Waterway in the men’s double sculls. This was the first rowing gold for the country since Kate Taylor’s boxing victory in 2012. It made ten total Olympic gold for the country Ireland.

The reigning world and European champions made history by closest challengers Germany in the home stretch to win in six minutes and 6.43 seconds. They led the trail by 0.48 seconds. With a distance taking its bronze Italy finished third.

27-year-old O’Donovan has first gold along with his silver which he won at Rio 2016 along with his older brother Gray who is a reserve team member after missing out on 24-year-old McCarthy. He became the first Irish athlete to win gold and silver Olympic medals. The two boys looked very strong all week and did not panic at all and are extremely happy with their position in the game.

Ireland competed as an independent country in the 1924 Olympic Games in Pairs and has won 33 summer Olympic medals so far.

Hidilyn Diaz wins Philippines first gold medal

Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz took top billing in an ecstatic nation’s newspapers above reports on a major speech by her president just one day after making history by winning the first-ever Olympic gold medal for the Philippines. Diaz appeared four times in the Olympics and won a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics. This year she won the 55kg category women’s weightlifting.

The 30-year-old is being showered with accolades. In 2019 the story was completely different when her name was included on a list of people accused of plotting against the same man, Rodrigo Duterte. Salvador Panelo, spokesman for Duterte made her fear for life as quoted by domestic media. It did not deter her and said she is busy making sacrifices for the Philippines and is focused on Tokyo 2020.

On Tuesday spokesperson of the president, Harry Roque said they will carve Hidilyn Diaz’s name in the Philippines’ history. In May 2019, Diaz’s name appeared on the chart who was accused of aiming “to discredit the administration leading to its ouster”. Panelo said it is disheartening that there are people who seek to take the limelight out of Ms. Diaz’s recent triumph and convert it into a political skirmish about who should and should not celebrate the country’s win.

Bermuda becomes the Smallest Country to Win its First Gold

33-year-old Flora Duffy earns Bermuda’s first pot of Olympic gold. She won her first gold in the women’s Olympic triathlon. The island in the Atlantic with a population of about 62,000 discovered its stunning victory in the Tokyo Olympics.

Bermuda has been sending its athletes to the Olympics since 1936 but till now they never got gold. Their highest honor so far was a bronze medal 45 years ago. Flora Duffy changed its country’s history in less than two hours, swimming, cycling, and running through the wind and rain around Odaiba Marine Park and won her gold. She ran for 10km to win in 1hr 55min 36 sec -74 sec clear of Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown. Taylor Brown’s bike punctured on the 40km section and won a silver. High wind and heavy rain caused a delay of 15 minutes at the start and led to multiple bike crashes.

Duffy has been the sole hope for her country for the last five years. After winning she said it was a heck of pressure for her as she was the Olympic favorite for five years. She feels the medal is bigger than her and will inspire the youth of Bermuda and think small island people can be on the world stage.

Austria’s win Shocks everyone at the Olympics and leaves the Dutch confused

Austrian Cyclist Anna Kiesenhofer gave one of the biggest shocks in Olympic road racing history with an unflinching victory in the women’s race as a quartet of Dutch champions paid for an apparent communication meltdown on Sunday. The rider whom everyone forgot about, rode off with an improbable gold medal in the women’s road race in Japan. The race took place at Fuji International Speedway in Oyama, Japan.

The 30-year-old was licensed to build up a lead of around 10 minutes in a five-rider group who escaped right at the beginning of the 137km route into the west side of hills in Tokyo. The Olympic debutant who doesn’t ride for a pro team was focused on spinning her legs as she powered around the undulating track to protect her advantage tenaciously. Once she reached the finish line she lay on the pavement and gasped for breath.

Anna claimed her country’s first cycling medal in 125 years and the first gold medal in the Summer Olympics since 2004. The lone member of Austria’s cycling team said she just feels incredible and had sacrificed a lot for this day.

Hafnaoui from Tunisia wins Africa’s first Tokyo gold

Ahmed Hafnaoui joins Ous Mellouli to be the only Tunisian to win a gold medal for swimming. In the Olympics this year, Africa won its first gold medal in the 400 meters freestyle. Hafnaoui performed spectacularly at Tokyo games on Sunday, beating a field of faster and older swimmers.

The 18-year-old finished in just 43.26 seconds (three minutes). He started as the slowest qualifier in the final. He said that he did not believe it when he touched the wall and was very surprised to see himself touching it first. He further added that he was only thinking about the medal and not the time. He entered the final by 14-hundredth of a second and landed himself in the far outside lane. When he started nobody was watching him but when he finished all eyes were on him.

Australian swimmer Jack McLoughlin won silver and American Kieran Smith earned bronze. All three swimmers were separated by less than a second after the eight-lap race. Hafnaoui is the North African Country’s fourth Olympic gold medalist. He became the second-youngest athlete from an African nation to win a gold medal in swimming. His coach was all proud of him and dedicated it to all the Tunisian people.
