Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to adopt electric vehicles, promote solar-powered irrigation and reduce unnecessary fuel consumption in response to global economic disruptions and rising energy concerns. Addressing the nation amid tensions affecting global oil supplies, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of conserving foreign exchange and reducing dependence on imported fuel.
He encouraged people to consider work-from-home arrangements, carpooling and other fuel-saving measures similar to those adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic. Modi also advised citizens to prioritise domestic spending and delay non-essential purchases such as imported luxury goods and gold. The Prime Minister highlighted that India’s long-term energy security depends on expanding renewable energy usage and strengthening sustainable infrastructure in agriculture and transport.
The government has been increasingly promoting electric mobility and solar irrigation systems as part of its clean energy transition strategy. Officials believe these measures can help protect the Indian economy from fluctuations in global crude oil prices and geopolitical instability. Analysts say the remarks reflect growing concerns over international supply disruptions and their impact on inflation and fuel imports.
