President Droupadi Murmu on March 24 urged all stakeholders to come together to eliminate tuberculosis, describing it as a persistent global public health challenge. In her message on the eve of World Tuberculosis Day, she emphasised that coordinated efforts are essential to tackle the disease effectively.
Highlighting the significance of the day, observed annually to raise awareness about tuberculosis, the President said the occasion serves as a reminder of the need for sustained action. She noted that India has made notable progress under initiatives such as the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which has strengthened early diagnosis, ensured free treatment, and improved nutritional support for patients.
Murmu also pointed to the role of the National TB Elimination Programme in advancing the country’s fight against the disease. Despite these gains, she cautioned that tuberculosis continues to remain a serious concern, requiring continued vigilance and commitment.
Calling for collective responsibility, the President urged governments, healthcare professionals, and citizens to work with renewed determination. She stressed that awareness, early detection, and community participation will be crucial in achieving the goal of a TB-free nation.
