Linde has secured about eight acres of land in Sanand, Gujarat, to build a high-purity gas facility for semiconductor packaging. Company executives told The Economic Times that Sanand is becoming a growth hub for chip-packaging units and that the site will let Linde serve them directly.
Sanand is home to upcoming semiconductor projects linked to Micron, CG Power and Kaynes Technology. Linde has begun what its executives described as constructive discussions with potential semiconductor customers there about long-term gas supply arrangements. The company did not disclose investment details.
Gases are used at several stages of chip production, from creating thin films and removing unwanted material to controlling chamber conditions and cleaning manufacturing equipment.
The land adds to Linde’s Gujarat footprint, which includes an air separation plant at Dahej and a packaged gases unit in Ahmedabad. A separate air separation unit in Dholera, another emerging chip hub in the state, is due to be ready in the second half of 2027. Linde has said the Dholera plant will produce oxygen, nitrogen and argon for upcoming electronics projects.
Linde executive Milan Sadhukhan said the company has also held talks with the Gujarat government on incentives available under initiatives such as ISM 2.0 and state-level programmes. He called the engagement encouraging.
The country is the world’s largest industrial gases supplier. It operates more than 1,000 plants worldwide and supplies specialty gases to the semiconductor, solar and display industries.
