Arunachal’s Remdo Gao Wins National Gold, Qualifies for World Arm Wrestling Championship 2026

Arunachal Pradesh’s Remdo Gao has qualified for the 2026 World Arm Wrestling Championship after securing a gold medal at the PAFI National Arm Wrestling and Para Arm Wrestling Championship held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Gao claimed the top spot in the junior boys’ 55 kg left-arm category, defeating 23 competitors to emerge as the national champion.

The achievement marks a major milestone for the young athlete from Pasighat in East Siang district. His victory has earned him a place at the World Arm Wrestling Championship, which is scheduled to be held in New Delhi later this year. The national event attracted around 1,800 arm wrestlers from 24 states, making it one of the largest competitions in the sport in India.

Arunachal Pradesh fielded a 28-member contingent at the championship. Another athlete from the state, Nanang Giri, finished fourth in the youth boys’ 65 kg left-arm category. The All Arunachal Pradesh Arm-Wrestling Association congratulated Gao on his success and expressed confidence that more athletes from the state would excel at national and international competitions in the future.
