Summer McIntosh Sets Championship Record at Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

Canadian swimming star Summer McIntosh won gold in the women’s 400m individual medley at the 2026 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine, California.

The 19-year-old finished in 4:28.01, taking nearly four seconds off the previous championship record. Australia’s Jenna Forrester won silver in 4:31.50, while Argentina’s Agostina Hein claimed bronze in 4:32.54.

McIntosh completed the race across butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. Her winning time erased Elizabeth Beisel’s previous Pan Pacs record of 4:31.99, set in 2014.

The victory marked McIntosh’s first individual Pan Pacific title. She had also been on pace early to challenge her own world record from last year.

McIntosh later helped Canada win bronze in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay. Canada finished in 7:52.74, behind championship-record winners Australia and the United States.

McIntosh said she was happy to win for Canada but believed she could have performed better. She added that reviewing her race splits would help her learn from the performance.
