India’s man-made fibre exports increased by 6.5% in 2024-25, indicating a steady rise in the country’s performance in synthetic materials. Technical textile exports increased by more than 15%, indicating India’s stronger position in this rapidly growing sector. Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs, stated that these achievements are moving the country closer to $100 billion in textile exports and a $350 billion textile market in 2030. He added that the rise is consistent with India’s long-term goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
He emphasised that global buyers are increasingly looking for high-performance and sustainable materials, and India is responding to this trend with increased product quality. The minister spoke at the MATEXIL Export Award Function in Mumbai, where over 80 companies were recognised for export excellence. He stated that the recognition extends to workers, engineers, designers, and entrepreneurs who contribute to the industry’s growth.
Margherita stated that MMF now accounts for up to 75% of the global fibre market, indicating a significant shift in global consumption. He also commended the PLI Scheme and the National Technical Textiles Mission for improving India’s capabilities, citing 17 new companies investing Rs 2,374 crore in the PLI initiative.
