Google has launched “Ask Google Pay” in India, a Gemini-powered artificial intelligence assistant integrated into the Google Pay app. The new opt-in feature enables users to analyse their spending, receive personalised financial insights, and understand complex financial concepts through natural text or voice conversations.
The AI assistant allows users to ask questions like how much they spent on dining last week. It analyses transaction history and credit report data to provide tailored insights and recommendations instead of simply displaying past transactions.
In addition to spending analysis, Ask Google Pay can explain topics such as compound interest, compare different tax regimes, answer queries about Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) and credit scores, and recommend suitable credit cards based on individual requirements, including travel and lifestyle preferences.
The feature supports both text and voice interactions and is currently available in 10 languages, making it accessible to India’s diverse user base.
Alongside the AI rollout, Google also announced the expansion of Google Pay Flex, its fully digital credit card offering. After its launch with Axis Bank in December 2025, the company has now partnered with SBI Card to introduce the Google Pay Flex SBI Card.
The new card operates on the RuPay network, also supports Visa, and can be applied for within the Google Pay app without paperwork. Cardholders earn reward points known as Stars, valued at ₹1 per Star, and can convert eligible balances into EMIs. Flex customers will also receive a 50% discount on the Google AI Plus plan for one year, along with additional Stars on purchases and discounts on Google Pixel smartphones.
